Structure Burn Training at BC3

By Lieutenent Doug Mellinger
June 24, 2018

In keeping with our efforts to provide the best protection to our communities and residents, members of Adams Area Fire District continued in our progressively aggressive training practices by conducting a structure burn session in the burn building at Butler County Community College today. The training, conducted by our line officers and Jim Ellis, had over 25 of our members and some members of neighboring departments in attendance.

Throughout the morning, students were split into teams to conduct evolutions on interior fire attack, search and rescue of victims, interior truck operations controlling fire path flow and extinguishment with a pressurized water can with door control, forcible entry, and basic overall comfort with the motor skills required in fighting a fire. After a short break for lunch, the afternoon consisted of "roll in" scenarios utilizing these skills.

A special thanks to the Wexford and Cranberry Fire Companies for the use of the forcible entry door props, and also to Cranberry for covering our area while we conducted this training. Also, thanks to the Public Safety Institute at BC3 and their wonderful Cadre for being there at a moments notice during the training with anything we needed. Another big thank you to our own Captain Sean Sokolowski for his hard work and effort in putting this training together.

We can't forget a big thank you to our Fire District "Mom", Nan McCormick, who brought a big, delicious lunch to serve her kids. Also, thank you to Andrew Bell for providing the photos and ensuring we were safe throughout the training.

A great abundance of material was covered, and a good time was had by all. Your Adams Area firefighters will be sore for the next day or two; but rest assured that we will be coming to help when you call, and our training will help us provide the best response to your call for help. We thank you for your continued support.
