Capt. Knaell was a member of our predecessor company, the former Mars VFC. Capt. Knaell had helped extinguish a residential fire on Beaver Street in Mars Borough. The probable cause was inhalation. Sadly, as was the norm in that era, his death received minimal investigation and media attention.

Capt. Knaell was survived by his wife and young son. He had been a Veteran of the US Army. His was the only LODD in the combined histories of AAFD or the parent companies, Mars and Valencia VFCs.
