| Old records from one of our parent companies, Community VFC of Valencia, reveal this letter from the Butler County Civil Defense office from 1956.
Just a few years prior, stations throughout the county acquired their first two-way radios. The first system to radio-alert ("trip out") mutual aid stations was also installed. This was a decade before County Communications ("Control") was established, so the City of Butler Central fire station housed the tone board and handled mutual aid dispatching.
The process underway by this correspondence was to add an additional layer - to enable Central to radio-alert all stations' house sirens in the recognized civil defense signals - ALERT and TAKE COVER - and to distinguish these warnings from the standard fire call signal in the various communities. |
